Ripple Effects Photo Contest Returns to Kentuckiana

January 31, 2025

The 5th annual Ripple Effects Photo Contest—open to students from kindergarten through high school—is returning to Kentuckiana. Ripple Effects is a community coalition that promotes connections between art, culture, and the environment. The annual competition asks youth to take a photo centered around water and write a short reflection on what the picture says about the importance of water in our community.

The Ripple Effects Photo Contest is open to all residents in the Kentuckiana area, including counties on both sides of the Ohio River. Submissions are due by May 18 (one photo per student) and cash prizes will be awarded for the best photographs in four age categories (kindergarten through 2nd grade, 3rd through 5th grade, middle school, and high school). Winning images will be displayed at Waterfront Park during their 4th of July celebration. For complete rules and registration, go to LFPL.org/RippleEffects.

To participate in other Ripple Effects Team activities, including community-based science projects, go to scistarter.org/RippleEffects.

The Ripple Effects Photo Contest is presented by the Louisville Free Public Library, Kentucky Association for Environmental Education, Kentucky Division of Water, Kentucky Center for African American Heritage, Kentucky Waterways Alliance, Louisville MSD, Louisville Water Company, Waterfront Park, River City Paddle Sports, Louisville Photographic Society, Louisville Photo Biennial, Ripple Effects International, and the University of Louisville College of Education and Human Development, and is made possible through a grant from the Louisville Sustainability Council and donors to the Library Foundation.
